Summary of the On Aired Program Since it is during the New Year’s holiday, let us talk about a rather easy topic so you don’t have to use your minds that much. If you turn on the TV, you can watch many sports events. For instance if you take a look at the Japanese Professional Soccer games, you will find many foreign athletes playing in the games. Now here is a question, what do you think the athlete’s status of residence fall under? The answer is, the “Entertainer” status. This is not only for professional soccer athletes, but all professional athletes such as baseball, sumou, golf, tennis, and wrestling. Then what is the status for amateur athletes? The answer is Designated Activities. But this does not mean, all amateur athletes will be able to obtain this status. Applicants would have had to be in any of the world-class tournaments, such as the Olympics, or World Tournaments. The next condition would be that you will be employed by a Japanese based company, you would have to be some kind of help in improving the amateur sports in Japan, and you would have to receive more than 250,000yen as your monthly salary. Last but not least, what is the status for coaches and instructors? The answer is Skilled Labor. You may recall that those who apply for the Skilled Labor status must have more than ten years of experience. They don’t require as much for coaches and instructors, but they do require a certain amount of experience. Also the immigration office would prefer them to have been qualified in a world-class tournament, when they were athletes. |
